Jack's Intro Questions
- Provide your name, major, year in school (sophomore, junior, etc).
- My name is Jack and I am an Econ major with a second major in communication design. I am a Junior at WashU.
- Tell us a bit about your background and what prompted you to take this class.
- I am interested in Web Development/front end design as a profession and this class would allow me to try things out. I have designed some front ends for a few websites but I really want to learn more about the programming that goes into implimenting it.
- Do you have any experience with HTML/CSS/JS? If so, tell us a bit about it.
- I learned basic HTML/CSS in Sophomore year of High School, and I learned a little bit of JS during Freshman year at WashU.
- Name one thing you hope to learn in this class.
- I hope to learn how to use HTML/CSS to enhance my work on other designing websites like figma or wix studio.
- Name one way you expect designing for screen to be different from designing for paper.
- I think designing for a screen requires you to be a lot more cognisent of how users interact with your work and making sure that they can move through your project without getting lost or confused.
- Provide a link to a website you think exemplifies effective design. Explain your choice.
- Haoqi Design. I chose this website because of how it flows throughout scrolling. Each section has its own feeling and it creates a very elegant feel. I especially like the text treatment of the top right introduction.

- Van Gogh Museum. For the purposes of being a website about a museum, I believe its method of having each scroll highlight an exhibit exemplifies communication. The header is very simple and lays out all options for the user.
- Provide a link to a website you think works well. Explain your choice.
- Target. I know that this is a pretty basic choice but Target has my favorite online shopping platform. It is extremely functional and doesn't get overwhelming like some of their competitors. It showcases a solid amount of ads on the homepage and gives all of them substantial room to breathe.
